If you could imagine putting a Kimya Dawson song into a film, it would actually turn out like this. It’s a chicken and egg scenario. Subtle, calm, endearing, clumsy, witty and right at the heart of it, sloppily unapologetically sentimental.
The basic premise is teenage girl gets pregnant and I was fully expecting the birth/giveaway scene to be mush-a-rama, but I wanted bawl my eyes out. As a cynical heartless bastard, this film completely disarms any emotional defenses by being really subtle, totally funny (Juno is the best friend you always wanted) and hyper cool, in a 'geeks rule' way but not in a geeks-are-better -than-you way.
