Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Ke$ha (Serbet): A biography binge

Nicki Minaj: Hip Hop Moments 4 Life by Isoul Harris

Stumbled across this in a second hand bookshop in Brixton, after a cold December holiday in Cyprus ("let's go to the beach, beach..." "let's not.") ignited a new found obsession. It was £4 relatively well spent, being detailed and quote heavy, from the one or two phone chats the author appears to have had, plus a steady reliance on things like The Guardian. It's dryly informative, and skips some of the juiciest moments of potential revelation - like what did actually happen with her father? Which is exactly how I felt chatting to Natalia Kills. Of course, you can't really ask. I came away with three things, aside the numerous chart positions and beef details with Lil' Kim. 1.) She went to stage school, the same one as Azealia Banks - LaGuardia High School of Performing Arts. 2.) She - and forgive me for the paraphrasing - gives her mom pocket money. 3.) She auditioned for a role in Ice Age, failed it, and they wrote a part for her.(and 4.) - she's the same age as me and Britney Spears)

Ke$ha: Blue Banner Biography by Tammy Gagne

This is an extortionate, hard bound, big fonted, printed wikipedia entry - in fact Ke$ha's actual wikipedia entry is considerably longer. I bought this on amazon for the princely sum of £15.83. Tellingly, Tammy Gagne specialist field is writing about dog breeds. I only hope and assume she writes about them with a little more passion.

Pub quiz knowledge: Ke$ha's real name is Kesha Rose Serbet

Katy Perry: A Life of Fireworks by Chloe Govan

Chloe is a veteran of the pop biography, having Rihanna, Kelly Rowland and Jessie J to her arsenal - and I only know this from the back of my Nicky Minaj book. I wouldn't normally rush to read a Katy Perry biography, but as you can see I picked it up for £2 (from "Book Madness" in Wood Green). There are lots of useful facts you can pick up if you are a casual Katy Perry fan, and the details of her fanatical religious upbringing are enlightening but my absolute favourite revelation - I almost dropped the book in the bath from a hearty LOL - was that Katy Perry's OCD-fear of cat hair lead her to shave all the fur (apart from the face) off her own cat, making it bald.
